Asset Management

- LT95 Gearbox/Transfer Box Before...

- ...and After Asset Management.
Hobson Industries Limited specialise in the Land Rover marque and are pioneers of a process known as Asset Management which, through a series of inspection, measurement and quality control procedures, cast assets can be embodied into new assemblies or supplied as individual components to provide a cost effective supply chain solution, particularly in terms of material obsolescence management.
Overview of Asset Management
At Hobsons, Asset Management is split into 3 areas –
- Vehicles - including Upgrades and Modifications
- Exchange Scheme Support and Provisioning
- General Parts Support for Maintenance and Repair Strategies
Taking an overview of Asset Management, all 3 areas combine into a common support strategy, with each element providing, from alternative aspects, the vehicle repairability and through life support elements which encompass the total Land Rover vehicle and support package to provision fleet availability with the benefit of reduced Through Life costs.
Vehicles
The Asset Managed vehicle strategy is such that cast assets are utilised for fleet rebuild and support issues enabling Top-Up programmes to be considered to maintain fleet levels and utilise common base platforms. With the focus on Through Life support provisioning, fleet availability can be kept to optimum levels.
The reconfiguration of redundant platforms can also be looked at with Whole Fleet Asset Management to achieve variations of vehicle operational roles while achieving a common base platform.
By the configuration of fleets to a singular common base platform, the associated Exchange Scheme Support and repair schedules can be better planned allowing the whole fleet support requirement to be viewed as one complete asset and managed through to the vehicle End of Life.
This encompasses the environmental considerations under the End of Life vehicle legislation which has become a part of the Through Life support strategy and transfers the responsibility for that material incorporated within the Environmental Protection Act to be managed within the core Through Life Asset Management programme.
Exchange Unit Scheme Support and Provisioning
By placing the whole Major and Minor unit repair pool into Asset Management, remanufacturing philosophies and processes will increase the repair pool scope, improve unit availability, increase reliability, reduce vehicle downtime and reduce Through Life costs. At Hobsons every remanufactured unit is warranted for 12 months as new production units.
Under the auspices of Asset Management, responsibility for the control and maintenance of the Exchange Scheme is placed within the Exchange Unit Scheme provisioner. By embracing the philosophy of Asset Management, the onus is placed on the provisioner to maintain the core pool levels necessary to enable the comprehensive Fleet support required by the modern fleet operator.
Parts Support for Maintenance and Repair Strategies
Asset Management for maintenance and repair strategies link well with the requirements for obsolescence management and provide cost effective provisioning solutions. Such an approach improves material availability and longevity of product support, demanded by the modern supply chain.
Technical Support
Technical Support is a key element of an effective Asset Management programme by liaison between provisioner and client to meet Through Life fleet management support criteria.
